There’s something timeless about the call of adventure — that irresistible pull toward the unknown. It’s the same spirit that drives explorers to distant lands and photographers to chase moments that words can’t quite capture.
For two of our intrepid travellers, that spirit led them deep into South Sudan, alongside ORYX Photo Tours’ CEO and Photo Tour Leader, Marius Coetzee, on an expedition that could have been lifted straight from the pages of a modern-day explorer’s journal— two adventurers, wide-eyed with wonder, stepping into a world few have seen.
Fresh from an East African cultural exploration, the journey continued northward into one of Africa’s most enigmatic and visually striking destinations: the land of the Mundari. Here, where the air carries the scent of smoke and cattle, the Mundari people live in harmony with their herds — their culture, rhythm, and resilience intertwined with these majestic animals.
South Sudan doesn’t give up her beauty easily. The light, the dust, the unpredictability of travel — every photograph had to be earned. Yet, through challenges and contrasts, our travellers embraced it all. Three countries, countless encounters, and an unbreakable spirit of discovery — this was photo travel at its most authentic.
The result? A collection of breathtaking portraits and scenes that speak not only of the Mundari and their cattle, but of the joy, laughter, and camaraderie shared along the way. These are images that reflect the essence of ORYX Photo Tours — connecting deeply with people, places, and the raw beauty of life through the lens.
To our explorers: thank you for embracing every moment with such enthusiasm, curiosity, and heart. Your photographs are a testament to the adventure itself — both in the images captured and the smiles behind the camera.
Please enjoy this selection of images captured by ORYX guests Ken Levitan and Paul Buchanan during their unforgettable journey with us. Thank you both for sharing your outstanding portfolio — what an incredible adventure and a privilege to showcase your work.
